Spring Baptism Recap

A few weeks ago, we had the joy of witnessing 10 students - Dixon, Emily, Troy, Shaun, Saraya, Joyce, Catherine, Katie, Creighton and April -  get baptized during our Sunday service! It was such a blessing to hear each student share their story and publicly declare Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Baptism Candidates

As Christians, we believe that baptism is not what saves a person. Rather, it is an outward and public expression of the inward transformation that has already taken place in a believer’s heart through faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism symbolizes a believer’s identification with Christ’s death and resurrection, and it is also a step of obedience that Jesus calls all Christians to take.

Here are a few verses from Scripture about baptism:

Galatians 2:20 - “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Colossians 2:12 - “Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.”

Romans 6:3–4 - “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”

Each of these students took this meaningful step of obedience in front of a room full of family and friends. For many of them, it was also an opportunity to share their testimony with their families for the very first time.

As I listened to each story, I was struck with a fresh sense of awe and gratitude for Jesus and the ways He has transformed each of their lives. Through family brokenness, the loss of loved ones, struggles with sin, feelings of emptiness, and seasons of striving, God was faithfully pursuing them and working in their lives to bring them to where they are today.

It was such a special and joyful day - a spiritual milestone each student can look back on and remember how God saved them and made them new in Christ Jesus!
