What is the Gospel?

Gospel [gos-puhl] - Good news.

Have you ever heard someone talk about the “gospel” and wondered what that word really means? The term comes from the Greek word euangelion, a combination of eu (“good”) and angelia (“message” or “news”). Simply put, it means “good news.” It’s the good news about who Jesus is, what He has done, and how that changes everything.

But the gospel isn’t just a story from the past, or a set of rules to follow. It’s the most important message anyone can hear. It tells us that God loves us, that He made a way to restore our relationship with Him through Jesus, and that through Him, we can experience forgiveness, hope, and a brand-new life.

This good news really changes everything. It gives purpose when life feels confusing, peace when things feel chaotic, and hope when everything seems hopeless. The gospel can transform hearts, heal broken relationships, and give a future full of meaning.

And here’s the thing, it’s not meant to stay to yourself. The gospel is the most important message you could ever share with someone else! But sharing it doesn’t have to be complicated or intimidating. In fact, it can be really simple. Check out the next section to see just how easy it can be to share the gospel!

Sharing the Gospel

To make sharing this message easier, our friends at Dare2Share Ministries created a simple six-letter Gospel acrostic called Life in Six Words. This tool helps you start meaningful spiritual conversations and clearly share the gospel with others. Each word in the acrostic represents a key part of the gospel, making it simple to remember and share:

G.O.S.P.E.L.

GOD CREATED US TO BE WITH HIM.

OUR SINS SEPARATE US FROM GOD.

SINS CANNOT BE REMOVED BY GOOD DEEDS.

PAYING THE PRICE FOR SIN, JESUS DIED AND ROSE AGAIN.

EVERYONE WHO TRUSTS IN HIM ALONE HAS ETERNAL LIFE.

LIFE WITH JESUS STARTS NOW AND LASTS FOREVER.

If you want to learn more, practice sharing the gospel in a clear, memorable way, or connect with friends around this life-changing message, check out the Life in Six Words app. It’s a free resource that guides you through each step and makes starting spiritual conversations simple and natural.
