The Good News in Isla Vista
This past weekend, we hosted a theatrical production called The Good News, a skit centered around three college sophomores discussing biblical truths and key Christian concepts.
In the weeks leading up to the performance, our students dedicated themselves to three weeks of rehearsals, stepping outside of their comfort zones to prepare. While many were nervous about performing in front of an audience, they definitely rose to the challenge during the big day!
Following the skit, we shared a video featuring three of our students explaining the gospel using the G.O.S.P.E.L. acrostic, and relating it to their own story of how they became Christian:
G – God created us to have a relationship with Him.
O – Our sins separate us from God.
S – Sin cannot be removed by doing good works.
P – Paying the price for our sin, Jesus died on the cross.
E – Everyone who trusts in Jesus alone has eternal life.
L – Life with Jesus starts today and lasts forever.
It was encouraging to see students and mentors invite parents, siblings, friends, and coworkers to attend. Through both the skit and the gospel presentation, guests had the opportunity to hear the message of Jesus explained in two different ways.
One mentor shared that her coworker thoroughly enjoyed the production and was impressed by the students who participated. Another student mentioned that his sister, who is not usually attentive during events, remained engaged throughout the entire performance.
The evening concluded with snacks, sports, and fellowship, giving everyone an opportunity to connect with one another and spend time with friends and family who attended.
Overall, it was a meaningful and rewarding experience. Watching our students work together, overcome their fears, and boldly share the gospel with those they care about was a reminder of how God can use ordinary people to communicate His extraordinary message.
